Need to be in Amsterdam for a few months, but not sure you want to live in the middle of it? You are not alone. Why look outside Amsterdam at all?

Living in Amsterdam for a month or more sounds appealing, and for some people it is the right choice. But a longer stay also means everyday life: sleeping well, working from home on some days, cooking, doing laundry and having somewhere quiet to come back to. Many guests find that a calmer town with good connections gives them a better balance between work and rest.

Hilversum combines a compact, walkable town centre with excellent connections. It is also the home of the Dutch broadcasting world at the Media Park, so it is used to welcoming people who come for a project, a production or a new job.

Getting around: Amsterdam, Utrecht and Schiphol

From Hilversum station, direct trains run to all three:

  • Amsterdam Centraal: about 20 to 25 minutes by Intercity, which runs twice an hour during the day. Sprinter trains take about 30 to 35 minutes.
  • Utrecht Centraal: about 20 minutes.
  • Schiphol Airport: about 30 minutes by the fastest direct train, or about 45 minutes by Sprinter.

Timetables change, so always check the NS journey planner at ns.nl before you travel.

That makes Hilversum a practical base if you:

  • work in Amsterdam a few days a week and from home on the other days;
  • divide your time between Amsterdam and Utrecht;
  • travel often and want a straightforward route to the airport;
  • work at or near the Media Park in Hilversum itself.

Our apartments on the Kerkstraat

Our Hilversum apartments are on the Kerkstraat, right in the centre: seven studios and apartments with shops, restaurants and public transport within walking distance. Each one sleeps up to two guests, which makes them a good fit for solo professionals and couples.

Several of these apartments have paid parking nearby. Kerkstraat is also one of only two locations where we offer luggage storage before check-in or after check-out, which is handy if you arrive early from abroad.

Across the seven apartment types, sizes range from 60 to 70 m², which is generous for one or two people.

Everything you need for a longer stay

A month or more feels very different from a weekend. Our apartments are set up for everyday life:

  • fully furnished, with an equipped kitchen;
  • fast private Wi-Fi for calls and remote work;
  • fresh linen and towels, and laundry facilities;
  • a digital access code, sent by email and WhatsApp one day before arrival;
  • weekly cleaning for stays of seven nights or longer, with fresh bed linen;
  • a guest team you can reach every day from 10:00 to 22:00 by email, phone or WhatsApp.

Check-in is at 16:00 and check-out at 11:00. When you book directly, early check-in at 14:00 is free, subject to availability. You can stay from one night up to 180 days, and if you stay 30 nights or more you can register at the address. Our guide on registering your address and getting a BSN explains the general rules (it focuses on Rotterdam, but the national rules are the same; check with the municipality of Hilversum for local procedures).

What does it cost?

Your total is the nightly rate multiplied by the number of nights, plus tourist tax, the cleaning fee, VAT and any extras you book. A separate €150–€300 security deposit is paid through our Alphabet Stay app during online check-in. You pay before arrival, unless a different payment schedule has been agreed for corporate invoicing. Booking directly on our website gives you 5% off compared with booking platforms. Is Hilversum right for you?

Hilversum is a good fit if you want a calm, walkable base with direct connections, and you do not need to be in central Amsterdam every evening. If you need room for a larger family or team, our Rotterdam apartments with two or three bedrooms may suit you better; see our Rotterdam neighbourhood guide.
