Where to stay in Rotterdam for a month or more: a neighbourhood guide

Staying in Rotterdam for weeks or months? Compare the city centre, Markthal area, Rotterdam Noord, Hillegersberg and more, and find the right base.

Rotterdam city centre at golden hour, a base for a longer stay

Choosing where to stay for one weekend is mostly about the sights. Choosing where to live for a month or more is about everyday life: your daily commute, where you buy groceries, whether you can sleep with the window open and how quickly you get to the station when your weekend plans change.

Rotterdam is a compact city, but its neighbourhoods feel very different. Our 33 serviced apartments are spread over eight addresses, from the Markthal to the quiet streets of Hillegersberg. Below we walk you through each area, who it suits best and which of our apartments you will find there.

Start with three questions

Before you compare neighbourhoods, answer these:

  1. Where will you spend most weekdays? An office near Rotterdam Centraal asks for a different base than a job in the port or at a hospital.
  2. Who is coming with you? One person can live comfortably in a studio. A family or a group of colleagues needs separate bedrooms.
  3. Will you bring a car? Most of our buildings have no on-site parking. Westersingel and Villapark do.

Once you know the answers, the map becomes much easier to read. For more help choosing the right size, see studio or one-bedroom apartment?

City centre: Westersingel

Best for: families, project teams and anyone who wants a central address with room to spread out.

The Westersingel is a canal-side street in central Rotterdam, within reach of the city's shops, restaurants and cultural venues. It is our largest location, with eleven apartments, most of them with three bedrooms and sleeping four to six guests. Paid on-site parking is available, which is rare in the centre.

Around the Markthal: Binnenrotte and Jufferstraat

Best for: people who want to walk everywhere and like a lively setting.

The area around the Markthal and Blaak station is the heart of the old city, with markets, cafés and restaurants on your doorstep.

Binnenrotte has three studios at Binnenrotte 102, close to the Markthal and Rotterdam Blaak station. They are compact (18 to 32 m²) and well suited to one or two business travellers.

Jufferstraat offers six larger apartments of 64 to 131 m², with two or three bedrooms and room for up to six guests, a short walk from the Markthal.

By the water: Prins Hendrikkade

Best for: couples, solo travellers and small groups who want space and a view of the harbour.

At Prins Hendrikkade you can choose between a 70 m² one-bedroom apartment with a harbour view and a 44 m² studio with a double bed and a single bed, sleeping up to three.

Rotterdam Noord: 2e Pijnackerstraat and Zwart Janstraat

Best for: families and groups who prefer a neighbourhood feel over the busy centre.

Rotterdam Noord is a residential part of the city with local shops, cafés and public transport. At 2e Pijnackerstraat we have four three-bedroom apartments (65 to 86 m², sleeping four to six). Some have paid street parking nearby. At Zwart Janstraat you will find two duplex apartments with two bedrooms (63 and 73 m²), with light interiors and a living area that also works well for remote work.

Hillegersberg: Villapark

Best for: guests who want calm, greenery and a place for the car.

Hillegersberg is one of Rotterdam's quietest and greenest residential areas. Our two apartments at Villapark (75 and 84 m², one of them a duplex) have two bedrooms, and parking is available here.

Rotterdam-Zuid: Brede Hilledijk

Best for: solo travellers and couples who want a quiet base that is still close to the centre, with air-conditioning and practical extras.

Brede Hilledijk is in Rotterdam-Zuid, in the Feijenoord district. Our building sits on a calm residential street in the Katendrecht neighbourhood, close to the Afrikaanderwijk and the Kop van Zuid. Rijnhaven metro station (lines D and E) is a few minutes' walk away: from there the metro takes about 5 minutes to Beurs in the city centre and about 7 minutes to Rotterdam Centraal, or 4 minutes south to Zuidplein, a five-minute walk from Rotterdam Ahoy. Our building here has three compact units of 20 to 25 m², all with air-conditioning: two studios, one of them with skyline views and one described as accessible, and a one-bedroom apartment. It is also one of only two locations where we offer luggage storage before check-in or after check-out.
