Business travel has also returned with force. Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions accounted for one million overnight stays — a 25 percent increase and a return to pre-pandemic levels. The Cube Houses have a freshly renovated place to stay
One of the most visible hotel stories of the summer is the reopening of Stayokay Rotterdam inside Piet Blom’s famous Cube Houses. The property reopened on 6 August 2026 after a complete renovation of its rooms, reception, bar and entrance.
The renewed hostel includes three additional rooms and a four-person “Cube Studio” with a private bathroom, kitchenette and refrigerator. Stayokay also reports upgraded insulation, energy-efficient heating and cooling in rooms on the upper floors, bamboo tables and reused bunk beds. Ahoy makes accommodation part of the event journey
Rotterdam Ahoy introduced its own hotel-booking service in June 2026, working with HotelMap. Ahoy says it welcomes around 2.3 million visitors from the Netherlands and abroad each year, many of whom combine an event with an overnight stay.

Hotel Chicago is changing the Wilhelminapier again
The Wilhelminapier already contains some of Rotterdam’s best-known architecture and hotels, but the skyline is not finished. Construction of Hotel Chicago started in October 2024. The municipality currently expects completion at the end of 2027 or beginning of 2028.
The WestCord Hotels project sits among other major developments on the pier, including De Sax. It underlines the long-term confidence in Rotterdam as an international destination — especially around the waterfront, cruise terminal, theatres and business district.
